Nose

Rhinoplasty is a popular form of cosmetic surgery designed to correct the size, shape, and symmetry of a patient’s nose. The surgery can also be used to correct breathing problems caused by a deviated septum or some other structural abnormality. For many Newcastle and Hunter Valley-area patients, rhinoplasty opens the door to a new world of beauty and self-confidence.

Cosmetic correction

Procedure

When performing rhinoplasty, Dr. Newton will reshape the underlying bone and cartilage of the nose to meet the goals of the individual patient. If necessary, he may augment the natural tissue with artificial implants to create the desired look. The procedure is performed through discrete incisions at the base of the nose to minimise scarring.

Recovery

Patients will need to wear a protective splint on the nose for up to two weeks after rhinoplasty. Most patients will be able to return to all normal activities after about a month, but the final results of the procedure will not be reached for up to three months.

Results

The result will be a nose that is to your liking. It will suit your face. It wont embarrass you.

Costs

Every patient is individually assessed and Dr. Newton’s fee will reflect the type and complexity of the procedure required.

At your consultation with Dr. Newton you will discuss the costs with our office manager. The costs will be explained and you will receive a detailed written costing. If a rebate is applicable it will be clearly defined in your costing.

Risks

When performed correctly, rhinoplasty should not impede breathing or negatively affect the structural integrity of the nose. However, care must be taken during the healing process to ensure that the nose is not injured, as even slight injury could create the need for revisional surgery.

Correction of traumatic deformity

Obviously trauma to the nose can cause significant deformity and airway problems. Rhinoplasty can correct these problems.

Procedure

Dr Newton will repair and reshape the nose to bring it to a natural look. This can involve refract ring the bones, reshaping the cartilage, removing bent cartilage, grafting new cartilage and even the insertion of an artificial implant.

Recovery

Recovery over the first 2 weeks involved wearing a nasal splint and there may be packs in the nostrils. It is important that you do not have any trauma to your nose for a further 6 weeks.

Results

The results can be extremely good. Severely deformed noses once again become attractive.

Costs

Every patient is individually assessed and Dr. Newton’s fee will reflect the type and complexity of the procedure required.

Risks

The risks are few.

Correction of airway problems

Airway problems can be part of abnormal nasal growth or a result of trauma. They can be very stressful. Correcting them can bring great relief.

Procedure

The operation can be simple or complex, depending on the problem. It may involve removing tissue, reshaping tissue or supporting tissue.

Recovery

Recovery involved a splint for 2 weeks and nasal packs for at least one week. You then have to be careful of your nose.

Results

When you can breath again you will feel so much better.

Costs

Every patient is individually assessed and Dr. Newton’s fee will reflect the type and complexity of the procedure required.

Risks

Once again the risks are few.

Excision and repair of nose cancer

Cancers are very common on the nose. Oncoplastic surgery to excise them and repair the defect may be required.

Procedure

Procedures vary according to the type and size of the cancer and where it is situated on the nose. They range from simple excisions, thorough skin grafts to skin flaps. Dr Newton will chose the procedure to suit the needs of the situation and to optimise the cosmetic result.

Recovery

Immediate recovery is only weeks, but for a graft or flap to fully settle may take much longer.

Results

Results vary, but with time are generally very acceptable.

Costs

Every patient is individually assessed and Dr. Newton’s fee will reflect the type and complexity of the procedure required.
