Fat Injection

Fat injection or Fat Transfer is the process of harvesting fat from one part of the body and transplanting it to another part to correct a contour defect or enlarge the area. It is used in a wide variety of situations from cosmetic lip and face enhancement through to contour restoration for example in breast surgery after mastectomy or even breast augmentation.

Procedure

Essentially the process is a minimally invasive one of liposuction of fat and then reinjection of that fat into the area of need. To optimise the results, the fat must be harvested with minimal trauma, cleaned and concentrated and then reinjected with care. Generally slight over injectiion is performed. It may be done under local or general anaesthetic depending on the circumstance.

Recovery

Recovery is quick. There may be some bruising or swelling but this settles quickly

Results

Results are invariable an improvement in contour of the area treated. Fat survival is the key factor. On average 60% of fat injected will survive permanently. In some cases repeat injection is required
